Gardenoside is a kind of terpene glycoside extracted from the dried ripe fruit of the plant gardenia, also known as geniposide. It is a white crystalline, powdered cycloallyl ether glycoside.Gardenoside is easy to dissolve in water, also soluble in ethanol, but insoluble in petroleum ether, and will present a positive reaction with ferric chloride, hydroxamic acid, alpha-naphthol. Gardenoside is widely used in medicine and dye industry.Since genioside not only promotes bile secretion, reduces bilirubin in blood, promotes rapid excretion of bilirubin in blood, inhibits skin fungus and hemolytic streptococcus, but also has sedation, hemostasis, pain relief, swelling reduction and blood pressure reduction, so it can be widely used in the pharmaceutical industry.
