Spur Gears

At Atlas gear Company, we manufacture external spur and helical gears from 12" in diameter up to 36" diameter with face lengths up to 40" in length. Depending on the outside diameter and the diametral pitch. Using the latest in CNC gear cutting machinery our Pfauter and Mitsubishi gear hobber's are capable of cutting up to an AGMA class 1011 gear. Without any additional finishing process required. Gears up to 24" diameter can be hobbed and gear ground to an AGMA class 1314, for all those high speed, high accuracy gear requirements. We also have internal and external shaper cutting capabilities up to 36" in diameter with up to a 9" gear face, using our late model Mitsubishi SC 63 CNC gear shaper, also holding up to an AGMA Class 1011. This is one of the largest CNC gear shapers in the Midwest. Do you need gears with high numbers of teeth, or those problem prime numbers of teeth? Bevel Gears

Straight Bevel Gears, and Mitre Gears can be manufactured from 24DP to 3DP up to 20 inches in diameter and produced to meet AGMA Class 8 levels. These gears can be run in sets and matched together using our Gleason motorized test machines assuring that the tooth contact bearing is correct with, and without loading, backlash between mates is correct to the mounting distance, and that the noise level of the gear doesn't exceed manufacturing requirements. If only one member of the set is being made, it can be tested to a master gear, or a "functional" mating part to insure that it will mate properly in assembly. We produce MitreBevel gears in many types of materials, from plastics to pre hardened alloy's up to 32-35 Rc.

Crown Gears

Crowned Gears are necessary for applications where noise is a concern. Crowning gear teeth reduces noise by alleviating misalignment through either assembly or thrust problems. We are able to achieve crowning by any one of three means. One is by crown hobbing in one of our CNC gear hobbing machines, without any additional process. We can Also straight hob the gear teeth, then crown shave the teeth, achieving the necessary crown but also an even higher AGMA class level gear, and lastly we can straight hob and crown gear grind the gear to an even higher class level yet, up to AGMA Class 1314.

Helical Gears

Worm Gears

We will produce worm gears up to 36" in diameter, and up to 8 starts. Again using the CNC gear hobber's we can handle higher helix angles and number of starts. We manufacture worm gears from all types of materials, bronze, plastics, stainless steels, ductile irons, cast irons and alloy steels, for all types of applications. Another way that we're able to make the highest quality worm and worm gear sets is the testing we're able to do that others can't. We have an Illinois Model 2324 Worm Gear test machine, that enables us to match the worm and gear in the same way it will be mounted in your gear box. This allows us to match the tooth bearing contact exactly, and verify backlash to specified requirements. This is another example of how we're able to control quality, meeting or exceeding our customers requirements.
