Tong Grabs are well suited for a wide range of below-the-hook material handling applications: plate, slab, block and ingot. The Tong mechanism uses either friction andor a physical feature (edge, corner, rim, etc.) to secure the load. Depending on the material to be lifted, the Tong Grab may grip the load using a pointed indenter, serrated jaws, polymer rubber lined pads or other appropriate contactor.

Just as modern rolling mills have an almost infinite variety of rolls, Bradley Lifting has an equally wide range of Mill Roll Lifters. Our engineers have created solutions to lift anything from small processing rolls to mammoth back-up rolls with chocks.

A very common arrangement is a Lifting (Spreader) Beam connected to the roll chocks. Lifting Beams with a J-Hook option can lift the roll itself on journal diameters.

Motorized grabs can lift from the ends of the roll. Often the choice of roll lifter is dictated by surrounding equipment, available headroom, storage space, or other constraints of the operating environment.

Slab Tongs from Bradley Lifting are rugged, mill-duty lifting devices suited for continuous operations where reliability and up-time are critical. Bradley Lifting offers slab tongs with a full mechanical design where the unit is held open by a heavy-duty automatic latching mechanism. Slab Tongs with automatic latches are generally used for single slab handling.

For multiple slab handling, a motorized Slab Tong is available. An electric motor opens and closes the Slab Tong for selective pick-and-place of either a single or multiple slabs from a stack.

Diameter Tongs are specifically designed to lift round or cylindrical loads (pipe, tube, bars, etc.) A conformal leg of the lifting equipment engages below the center-point of the load where not only is the load cradled by the legs, but also securely clamped on the outside diameter.

Each Diameter Tong is designed for a specific size range; it is very important that Bradley Lifting engineers understand the maximum and minimum diameters.

Some Diameter Tongs use multiple legs for lifting long, slender materials, thereby reducing deflection and improving handling. It is also possible to lift multiple rounds as either stacked bundles or in parallel.

If the inside diameter (I.D.) of a round object is accessible, a Diameter Tong can also be used. Lifting on the I.D. is usually either a friction grip on the I.D. wall or engaging the underside of the load through the I.D.

Plate Tongs offer a simple an efficient method for lifting and moving a single plate. Bradley Lifting uses high strength alloy steel in the links and lever members, plus cold finished alloy steel in all of the pin connections. The Plate Tongs are a heavy-duty construction for years of dependable service.

For paper rolls, Bradley Lifting supplies many variations of Tongs or Telescoping Drive Lifters, depending on the requirements of the application. Paper rolls can be gripped on the outside diameter, the inside diameter or from the ends.

Tongs provide a simple method for handling paper rolls. The lifters can be configured for either automatic or manual latching of the Tong.

A Telescoping Drive Lifter is a good choice for a wide range of paper roll sizes or when there is limited crane headroom. Bradley Linear Drive Roll Lifters can be powered by electric motor, hand crank or chain wheel.
