Since most vehicles do not use one standard thread, you will find this unique tap and die set extremely handy! The kit contains 30 taps overall, 14 dies, 2 die stocks and 1 tap wrench. The thread sizes included are as follows: One taper taper, one bottom tap and one die in each of the following threads:

This kit contains only the every day taps and dies used on most motor bikes. Why buy a large, expensive kit, when you probably will never use many of the taps or dies? Gone is the expensive box, instead taps and dies are preserved in their own individual plastic container. This makes storage in your toolbox drawer easy. Included: 14", 516", 38", 716" and 12" BSC - CEI bottom taps (26 TPI)Dies in the same sizes 2BA Tap and Die are included for carb and electrical components, as most times you only need a tap to clean out paint, or plating etc. Taper taps are used when making a new thread and are really unneccesary in a maintenance kit. However, if you need to cut a new thread from scratch, order the taper tap seperately. Also included is the often used 14"-19 BSP bottom tap for cleaning out those gas tank pet cock threads. This is a parallel thread.

Now you can make British sized hex bolts and nuts out of the correct sized hex bar! All of our British sized hex bar stock is stainless steel (type 303) cut to 10" long pieces.

STANDARD NUT. These nuts are, on the face of it, your ordinary, every day nut, however, there were two methods of manufacture. The older style (BEARING SURFACE NUT - shown here) was brought about because the nuts were made on a lathe from hex bar. The top side had the corners slightly rounded, and the bottom side did not. You can also see the swirl marks of the cutting tool in the top and bottom of the nut. The more modern manufacturing process involves the nut being stamped out, so both top and bottom corners are slightly rounded, and there are no lathe tool marks.

The 'split die' is most commonly used and the solid die is particular to pipe threads.Die Nuts are extremely useful on vehicle maintenance, as they can be used with wrenches or socket sets in very confined spaces.

12 NUT = JAM NUT. Named differently, but basically the same. Usually, two of these nuts are used together as a 'locking nut'. Very effective, and used before the advent of Nylocks etc. In this example, the half nut is also oversized 'across the flats', so could also be considered a 'wide nut'.WIDE NUT. These are made for special applications, and are usually made from hex bar the next largest size.

These are made oversized in their height. They can be any length above standard, some being more than one inch tall, depending on the problem. When requesting this sort of nut, you need to provide accurate dimensions 'across flats', height, etc. NARROW NUT. These nuts have been made using a smaller sized hex bar, so the 'across flats' dimension is smaller than the standard. Obviously degigned to be used in tight spots. In this example, the 'deep nut' is also a 'narrow nut'.
