Pressure Switch

A pressure switch (also used for vacuum and called a vacuum switch) consists of a switch mechanism that is connected to a bellows or diaphragm that reacts to system pressure. Some are adjustable and some are not. They are selected operating range and differential. Operating range is the pressure limits in which the switch will work. Differential is the difference between the cut-in and cut-out pressures. A popular switch found on many compressors will a range of 40 to 250 PSI and an adjustable differentia of 35 to 60 PSI. This means that the lowest pressure that the switch can be set to close at is 40 PSI, and the highest pressure it can be set to open at is 250 PSI. The differential that is actually available to use varies with the pressure range youre actually working in. As pressure increases, available differential increases as well. Some switches have differentials as low as 5 PSI. The contact points in the switch are usually rated for the amount of current they can carry. Some switches are also horsepower rated. When you replace a pressure switch its important to make sure the contacts are of the same configuration as the switch you have. Double Pole Single Throw (DPST) contacts are very common. These will have 4 terminal screws, two of which are labeled Line and two of which are labeled Load or Motor. Some pressure switches need to be able to signal whether they are open or closed. These commonly have contacts called Single Pole Double Throw (SPDT). There will be three terminals labeled Common, Normally Open or Normally Closed. Cal Supply stocks a large selection of pressure switches for whatever you need.

Transair Stainless Steel Piping For Water

Transair offers a line of 304 Stainless Steel piping for use with liquids. The primary application of this piping is for industrial water with additives. It is offered in sizes of 22mm (34), 28mm (1), 42mm (1), 60mm (2), 76mm (3) and 100mm (4). This fully mechanical system allows for joints to be easily disassembled and re-used as needed, making maintenance and modification of industrial water systems much easier to perform. This system is rated for pressures up to 145 PSI and operating temperatures from 4F to +185F for the and 1 sizes and up to 140F for the larger sizes. The and 1 sizes use push-to connect fittings. The larger sizes use different locking mechanisms. The Transair system makes using stainless steel easy and economical!

Transair Piping

The Transair engineered piping system is a cost-effective way to install an efficient and attractive piping system. The smooth-bore pipe keeps fluid friction to a minimum and imposes a very low pressure drop. The pipe is available in aluminum for air, vacuum and inert gases, and stainless steel for water. The aluminum pipe is available in powder coat finishes for easy identification. The Transair piping system is completely mechanical. No flame is required for assembly so its ideal for sensitive areas. The light weight of the pipe along with the design of the fittings and hangers makes installation go much faster than a comparable steel or copper piping system. The ease of installation means you will save a considerable amount of money on labor, and the finished appearance of the Transair system makes your production area look great! Transair is corrosion resistant, so it keeps its good looks over time. One of the biggest advantages to the Transair system is how easy it is to modify to fit changing needs in your plant.

Engine Driven Air Compressors

Air compressors of both the reciprocating and rotary screw type are available with gasoline, diesel or natural gas engines as a source of power. They range in size from a 5 hp portable unit that a carpenter would use on a building construction jobsite to a 500 hp unit that might be supplying compressed air for a ship yard or mining operation. In between these are the machines you see mounted on the back of tire service trucks and the towable machines used for road construction. When theres no electricity available, an engine driven compressor will get the job done.

Vacuum Pumps

Cal Supply Co. can help you select the best vacuum pump for your intended application. We can provide bare pumps as well as complete vacuum systems. Vacuum can be described as a negative pressure (one that is lower than atmospheric pressure). It is commonly measured in inches of Mercury (in. Hg) instead of pounds per square inch (PSI), which is used to measure positive pressure. Where we define positive pressure as some number of PSI above atmospheric pressure, we define vacuum as some number of inches of Mercury below atmospheric pressure. Where the vacuum is only slightly below atmospheric pressure, units of inches of Water are sometimes used to express the vacuum level. Rotary Vane Vacuum Pump For high vacuum applications a different point of reference is used. Torr, or millimeters of Mercury, is referenced to a perfect vacuum (no air whatsoever). A perfect vacuum is 0 Torr, and atmospheric pressure is 760 Torr. Various levels of vacuum are used for various tasks. These include holding objects onto a surface, forcing materials into molds, removing unwanted gases from materials, moving bulk materials through pipes (for both medical and industrial applications), drying materials, and removing air from packaging and processes where the presence of oxygen is detrimental. Selecting a vacuum pump is a little more involved than selecting an air compressor. With air compressors we know what were working with: atmospheric air. With vacuum pumps were often working with air that has something else mixed in with it, and we have to be concerned about any effects this other material will have on the vacuum pump and the surrounding area to which the air is exhausted.

Low Pressure Air Compressors

Most 2 stage reciprocating compressors are designed to operate up to a maximum of 175 psi. Most rotary screw compressors are designed to operate efficiently between 90 and 125 psi. Some applications require high volumes of compressed air in the range of 45 to 60 psi. A rotary screw compressor designed for operation in this range will use a smaller motor and consume less power than a machine designed for operation at a higher pressure. Special construction is required for satisfactory operation in this range. Some applications require compressed air at 200 psi but are constrained by space, noise or cost considerations to use a modified rotary screw compressor rather than a reciprocating compressor . High pressure reciprocating compressors having 3, 4 or 5 stages capable of reaching pressures from 300 to 5000 psi are found in industrial settings, drilling rigs, diving operations, fire stations and more.

Motor Starter

A motor starter is a device thats used to start an electric motor. It consists of a contactor and an overload relay. A contactor is a heavy duty magnetically actuated switch that connects the motor to the line. The overload relay senses the current drawn by the motor and opens a switch to shut the motor down if the current is excessive. The magnetic coil that closes the contactor is wired to the machines control circuit. Motor starters are seen most on motors 3 hp and larger, or smaller motors that need to be remotely controlled. Smaller compressor motors may have temperature switches built in to their windings to shut down the motor if it becomes overloaded. These motors are stopped and started directly by the pressure switch. Starting larger motors directly with the pressure switch is not a good idea. The pressure switch contact points are not capable of carrying the high starting current and will quickly burn out. Motor starters are sized by the current they have to carry. They are also rated by horsepower and voltage. Contact us for sizing assistance and a price quote.
