Canine Caviar is the first and only Alkaline® pet food in the US designed specifically to help pets maintain homeostasis. Canine Caviar diets are based on 130 years of scientific research and hundreds of studies showing our pets need to eat an alkaline diet to maintain proper acid base balance in the blood without having to steal alkalinity from the organs, which can lead to pancreatitis and renal failure over time. Canine Caviar started domestically in 1998 and exporting in 2002. To date we are still the only alkaline-based diet with a pH of 7.1 to 7.4.

Canine Caviars Alkaline® diets quickly settle digestive upsets, reduce itching, scratching, shedding and hotspots; while addressing health concerns like cellular degeneration, kidney disease, liver disease, pancreatitis, heart disease & diabetes.

A wolf or wild dog would naturally eat an alkaline diet, as the blood, intestines and spinal fluid of the prey animal are alkaline. The difficulty in making an alkaline diet is in the processing. During processing of any kind, the blood, intestines and spinal fluids oxidize when exposed to oxygen. During this exposure, the alkaline properties become very acidic. It is also not possible to maintain the alkalinity by freezing or by freeze-drying. In fact, raw frozen diets are the most acidic due to the high concentration of blood.

Canine Caviar uses herbs and ingredients along with our unique processing procedure to create an alkaline diet. This method ensures that the herbs are time released into the stomach absorbing excess acid as it is being produced allowing better nutrient absorption in the intestinal tract and producing the desired urine alkalinity of 7.1 to 7.4. The other option to create alkalinity is using minerals, but this method often creates urinary crystals.

I am sure we have all seen a dog whose urine has burned and killed the grass. This happens when the pet’s urine is too acidic. Canine Caviars scientifically formulated diets ensure this does not happen by changing the acidic urine to an alkalinity of 7.1 to 7.4. This is the optimum pH for maintaining proper cellular regeneration and reducing anaerobic activity (aging). We provide a ten-week study of urinary pH test strips so the vet and the customer can see the change in the dog’s pH.

A urine alkalinity of 7.1 to 7.4 assists in maintaining blood alkalinity of 7.32 to 7.42 without putting additional stress on the organs, intestines and spinal fluid; since the blood will not have to steal alkalinity from them.
