Gaskets

A gasket is used when two surfaces have to be joined together. They are used to prevent leakage from contents that could cause either economic loss or safety hazards. Gaskets are an economical solution, they provide a positive seal even when two surfaces are less than exact.

Effective gaskets are capable of sealing system fluid, resisting erosion that may result from the system fluid traveling through the gasket, conform to fill any irregularities to provide a maximum seal, withstand system temperatures to both extremes, maintain resiliency, resist crushing, and never contaminate the system fluid.

At GHX, we pride ourselves on providing gaskets that meet this crucial criteria. The product sections will explain each type of gasket we carry, and how they can most effectively serve you and the needs of your business.

Gasket Materials

GHX gasket materials can be fabricated to suit the individual needs of our customers. Elastomer, which is chemically similar to rubber, is a polymer that can be stretched many times beyond its original shape and maintain its integrity without deformation. Examples of Elastomers used by GHX are Neoprene, Buna-N, SBR, Red Rubber, EPDM, Viton and Hypalon. These versatile materials can easily be cut into many different gasket shapes, and are useful for sealing materials such as plastic and fiberglass. They are also very chemically resistant.

Compressed Fibers, also referred to as compressed gasketing, are firmer and denser than Elastomers and therefore more suited to industrial applications where higher pressure and temperatures are involved. The reason they are called Compressed Fibers is that this type of gasketing usually combines fibers of two or more different high strength materials, frequently bound with Elastomer, to provide a maximum of chemical resistance, blow out resistance, and sealability, for maximum effectiveness and safety.

Metal Materials are used in the most high temperature, high pressure applications. We have various configuration designs to suit almost any industrial application, and despite the strength of metal, we use flexible sealing elements such as graphite in order to maintain maximum seal with enough give to provide exceptional effectiveness and safety for you and your employees.

Fasteners

At GHX we offer a wide variety of fasteners to serve all your businesses' needs. There are several types of fasteners we offer:

We carry stud bolts, which are threaded end to end and come in two types, the first for general use and the second for temperature pressure piping. When used for temperature pressure piping, these bolts are built to industry standard requirements, for maximum safety.

Hexagon bolts are a versatile choice, and are available in several series. They can be constructed from many different varieties of materials, tolerances, and threads.

Machine bolts have either square, hexagonal, button or countersunk heads, with a cylindrical body. Machine bolts are very versatile and are typically used in machines and for construction.

We also offer Belleville Springs, which are used to apply a pre-load or flexible quality to a bolted joint. They are very useful in applications that require a high spring load, and in situations where variables such as vibration, thermal expansion and bolt creep are issues. These springs have a lot of advantages, including efficient use of space, and long service life.

Please contact a GHX rep for further specs and advice on picking out the best fasteners to suit your needs. We are dedicated to providing the best product, at the best price, for the success and safety of you, your company, and your products.

Packing

There are many different options available for your packing needs, options which are both effective and economical. Some of the materials we use at GHX are:

Glass, which is an excellent packing material due to its ability to withstand heat, its stability, and tensile strength. In addition, glass can resist most chemicals and does not burn.

Carbon-Graphite fibers are able to operate at very high temperatures. Although they are more expensive than some other options, their extreme durability makes them cost-effective when the job requires exceptional sealing.

Aramid fibers are heat-resistant, exceptionally strong synthetic fibers, and their excellent resistance to high temperatures and high tensile strength make them an ideal choice for rugged applications.

PTFE fibers have very high resistance to chemicals and heat, as well as low friction and adhesion. PTFE packing does exceptionally well in highly corrosive chemical environments. It is nearly indestructible, has low friction, high strength, and excellent stability, as well as being selflubricating.

Metallic packing consists of materials such as lead, copper, and aluminum, which are malleable and heat conductive. These materials can be used singly or braided in combination with other styles of packing to achieve the particular performance required for a given job. Metallic packing can be conformed to unique shapes, and are frequently used as packing rings to seal valve stems.

Braided Packing is made from relatively soft and pliable materials, and as their name suggests, are formed by twisting, or "braiding, " individual strands together to obtain a finished product. Braided Packings are primarily used in petro-chemical, paper and steel mills, and in industries such as utilities, marine, water sewage, food, and nuclear. There are several basic styles of braided packing, including braid-over-braid, square braid and interlock braid.

Other types of packing offered by GHX include die-formed packing, hydraulic packing, valve stem packing and pump packing. At GHX, we are committed to working with you and your company to determine the best solutions for all of your packing needs, providing both economic value, efficiency, and safety for you and your employees, so you can get the job done.

Expansion Joints

Expansion Joints have many uses, including: Relieving system strain, absorbing movement, compensating for misalignment in a system, reducing mechanical noise, and eliminating electrolysis between dissimilar metals.

GHX nonmetallic expansion joints and flexible couplings are an ideal solution for a wide range of industries, including chemical and industrial process piping, pulp and paper manufacturing, power generation, waste water and sewage disposal, HVAC, as well as marine applications.

GHX rubber expansion joints are used for the same reason as their metallic counterparts. Rubber, in this case, can refer to many different compounds, such as Butyl, Viton, Neoprene, EPDM, all materials designed to operate optimally in many different environments. Spool type rubber joints can be manufactured to over 10 feet in diameter, and GHX rubber expansion joints and couplings are ideal for industries and applications such as power generating stations, pulp and paper manufacturing, chemical and industrial process piping, wastewater and sewage disposal, HVAC and marine applications.

GHX metal expansion joints are designed, engineered and furnished by experienced manufacturers with years of experience. Produced in standard pipe sizes 2 through 48 inches, the bellows can be fabricated with fixed or floating flange pipe weld ends, or plate flange, depending on your needs. The bellows can be manufactured from type 321 stainless steel, monel, 316 stainless steel, and aluminum and titanium can also be used for special cases. In addition, liners are also available.

We can provide a variety of joint types and sizes to provide movement in an axial, angular or lateral direction, whatever the job requires.

GHX flue duct expansion joints are used for lightweight jobs, such as scrubbers, precipitators, bathhouses, and fans in air handling systems. Available in round, rectangular and square configurations, as belt (unflanged) or U-type (flanged), they can be manufactured with virtually no size restrictions. Please contact a representative for specific specs.

GHX is committed to providing you and your company with the right kind of expansion joint for the job you need to get done, and to provide it with a maximum of customer service and attention to detail, ensuring both maximum efficiency and safety.

Textiles

At GHX, we provide a variety of textiles for industrial purposes, including Thermoglass Textiles, which are engineered and manufactured to meet a variety of requirements. We are offer four varieties of Thermoglass fabrics: marine fabrics, which are used primarily in shipyards, industrial, a group of medium and heavy weight fabrics ideal for general industrial usage, roving, a heavy grade fabric with texturized roving yarns, ideal for applications with less rigid application requirements, and wire-inserted, available for order when extreme strength is needed.

At GHX, we also provide Fire Blankets. Also known as Welding Blankets, these are commonly used to protect workers and equipment from molten metals and undesirable chemical products; the sheets are usually laid over the top of equipment, or fitted with grommets and suspended in a curtain of safety net fashion. Fire Blankets are usually constructed of fiberglass or silica cloth, then coated with a heat or chemical resistant coating; in addition to increasing safety, these coatings also extend the life of the product, providing extra value.

We can provide Tape Textiles, rolls of material manufactured to specific widths and used for sealing purposes; these can be made from a broad range of materials and designed to meet almost any sealing or insulation need.
