Global Metals for many years now have been the exclusive stockists and suppliers of Ovako hollow bars in Australia. Ovako hollow bars, or seamless mechanical tubes as they are known, are manufactured in the steel grades Ovako 280 and 495 (high strength micro-alloyed steel). The tubes have a very wide range of uses, from load-bearing structural elements to precision made components to meet high demands in machinability and fatigue strength.
Hot rolled or forged steel has undesirable characteristics which can be eliminated or modified by cold finishing to make a product more acceptable to the engineering industry. Because of its enhanced appearance, cold finished steel has become known as bright steel. Some of the properties are:
With carbon manganese and silicon as their only significant alloys, black carbon steels are the simplest steels of the engineering steel group. Within their capabilities they play a very important role, and indeed, they make up a large part of industries’ use of steel.
Case hardening steels are a group of suitably alloyed low carbon steels. These steels, when heat treated, absorb and diffuse carbon onto the surface. This is known as Carburization.
The stainless steels are the group of steels developed to resist corrosion in a wide range of hostile environments in which non-stainless steels suffer unacceptable damage. They can be used to advantage not only with liquid corrosive media, but also where resistance to oxidation and corrosion by reactive gases at high temperatures is required.
High Tensile steels are a group of carbon steels which are suitably alloyed to improve their hardenability. The improved hardening ability allows these steels to be heat treated to achieve levels of strength greater than plain carbon steels, in the same size range.
