UV Reflector Extrusions Aluminum reflectors are provided to assist engineers to build a UV curing system without investing in extrusion dies, long lead times, and minimum draw charges. These can be used for low wattage applications in free air or forced air-cooling of UV lamps in an end cooled reflector assembly, or center cooled reflector assembly. These are commonly used for focusing uv light from a medium pressure mercury vapor lamp, uv curing lamp or metal halide lamp as metal halide reflectors. Our extruded reflectors are made of specially processed 6061-grade aluminum. The inside surface is highly polished to yield an efficient transfer of UV energy from the uv bulb to the curing substrate. This high UV reflectance is approximately 90% and unlike other aluminum, this special grade resists tarnishing and corrosion. Enhanced reflectance liners, UV reflector liners or reflector sheets are not required; these products will typically only increase the uv reflectance, which is the amount of UV light from the ultraviolet lamp reaching the substrate by less than 5%. Three styles are available, two elliptical and one parabolic diffuser. Elliptical reflectors provide a line source. One focal point is at the center of the UV lamps the other focal point is positioned approximately 1.75" or 3.5" (depending on reflector used) from the bottom edge of the reflector to, the substrate. Parabolic aluminum reflector provide a collimated source and the reflectors bottom edge should be located 4 to 5 inches from the substrate. Spherical reflectors provide a non-uniform distribution of energy from UV lamps and are not offered by Hill Technical. For proper lamp operation it is important that each half of our reflectors is separated by approximately one quarter of an inch to allow for convection cooling.

These thermal materials allow a heat transfer thermal profile that is nearly free of loss. We can provide these materials in a variety of forms to meet your thermal management needs. The electronics industry is experiencing continuously increasing demands for miniaturization and cost reduction. These have resulted in a dramatic increase in heat generation through the use of higher frequencies, enhanced product functionality, and increased device power ratings. These all lead to higher temperatures which require good thermal transfer materials to ensure product performance and longevity. These thermal interface materials allow for thermal coupling of heat producing components and systems in an effective, uncomplicated, and cost-effective method of handling thermal management. Reducing mechanical stress Reducing mechanical stresses on the components assists both the designer in providing longer product life, and the manufacturer in making the product easier to assemble. Hence our thermal interface materials and gap filler are designed to require low compression force for good thermal transfer, and in the case of the gap filler, offer the combination of extreme conformability and the ability to regain its original shape after compression forces are removed. The products consist of highly flexible materials which are both thermally conductive and electrically insulating single or multi-component polymers, filled with ceramic or heat-conducting materials.

Our UV curing lamps are medium pressure Mercury Vapor lamps that are fabricated from a pure grade of amorphous non-crystalline silicon dioxide (SiO2) with tungsten electrodes sealed in each end by experienced craftsmen on specialized lathes. It is this mix of experience, equipment, and materials combined with a unique construction technique, which yields a uv bulb of the highest quality and reliability. Extended Life versions offer life 2 to 3 times typical ultraviolet lamps. A UV curing lamp can vary in arc length from 1 inch to 180 inches. Xenon Arc Lamps and other Short Arc lamps (with arcs of 11mm to 1.5mm) are also available. Typical power levels range from 200 to 1000 watts per inch, Super UV Lamps operate at 400 WPI and above, these can improve the performance of your current uv curing system, when used as a uv replacement lamp. Metal Halide lamps are available in several different spectra. The most common arc lamp for curing uv is a mercury lamp with a peak wavelength of 365nm.

About Short Arc Lamps We offer a wide range of short arc lamps, also known as compact arc lamps, with power levels ranging from 150 watts to 5000 watts in both mercury-xenon DC and xenon DC configurations. These lamps produce a highly stable uniform arc in the ultraviolet, visible, and infrared spectral ranges. Arc lengths range from less than a millimeter to approximately a centimeter. High-pressure gas discharge lamps provide the highest luminance and radiance of any continuously operated light source. Short arc lamps are used in applications such as graphic arts, photochemistry, medical, electro-optics, searchlights, stage and studio projection lighting, optical instrumentation, and military guidance and fiber optic illumination. Lamps are precisely formed into a spherical or ellipsoidal shape and come in either clear or ozone free producing quartz. Mercury vapor ballasts are designed to drive tubular medium pressure ultraviolet lamps. There are two types of mercury vapor lamps. The most common is the medium pressure lamp with no metal additives. This lamp is available in arc lengths of 1 to 120 inches. The other type of lamp is a metal-additive-mercury-vapor lamp. The additives used in the lamp create changes in the lamps spectral output enhancing different portions of the ultraviolet spectrum. The ballast initiates and controls the arc in mercury and metal additive curing lamp. This is accomplished by providing an instantaneous high voltage to strike the elements within a mercury vapor lamp, creating a plasma that, once initiated, is sustained by the ballast. Total wattages up to 50 kilowatts can be designed. Our constant wattage ballast consists of a transformer, capacitors and igniter. The advantage of a constant-wattage ballast is that it allows for wide variations in input voltage to affect output wattage by only a few percent. These ranges can be customized to meet your applications requirements. Typical designs have an output variation of only +- 3% with an input voltage varying over a range of -15% to +10%. Constant wattage is accomplished by a resonant tank circuit in which the lamp winding is in controlled magnetic saturation with the AC capacitors, such that voltage swings on the input side have a very small impact on lamp current. An interesting feature is that these current-limiting capacitors can be switched (see schematic) in and out of the circuit to provide various lamp power levels.

Our proven LIA's (UV Lamp Irradiator Assemblies) are UV reflector assemblies which provide an instant solution to reliable cooling of UV lamps. These lamp housings provide mounting and a highly efficient method of focusing UV energy on to the curing surface. Many engineers find that the most time consuming aspect of building a UV curing system is controlling UV bulb temperature and focusing UV energy on to the curing surface. Incorrectly maintaining lamp temperature severely degrades the performance and life of any UV lamp.
