Used for the evaporation of chromium Ideal for the evaporation of chromium. Since chrome sublimes (goes directly from solid to vapor), intimate contact is needed between the heat source and the chrome in order to achieve reasonable deposition rates. MTS chrome plated rods provide quick evaporation and reduce spitting that can occur when evaporating chromium in pellet form. No charging or loading is required, simply use until chromium is depleted. Rods are available in 2, 3, 4, 4.75or 6 lengths. One-half inch on either end is left uncoated for electrical connection. Rods are .050 diameter and are coated from .070 to .085 with pure chromium.Bargain Chrome Plated Rods Bargain rods are also available. These rods may show irregularities such as uneven coating thickness or uneven amounts of uncoated rod at the ends. However, they are functional and are a great value! Available in 3, 4, and 4.75 lengths.

Heavy metal tungsten alloys are 90% to 97% pure tungsten in a matrix of nickel and copper or nickel and iron. 9.95% pure. Rod is supplied with a centerless ground finish in standard or custom lengths. While there is no standard specific to tungsten rod, ASTM F288 (tungsten wire) and ASTM B760 can be used as guidelines. Pure tungsten rod is available in diameters from 0.030 to 4.0 or more. Below 0.070 both rod and wire are available. Wire will may have die marks or slight diameter variations and is available in long, continuous lengths. Wire will acquire a slight camber from being spooled, but can be straightened. Rod will have a uniform, centerless ground surface and diameter. Rod is supplied in straight lengths. Rod length can be as long as 6 feet, but maximum length may be limited by diameter. MTS stocks rod in 1 meter lengths. Other lengths are available upon request. TIG Tungsten Electrodes Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding is a popular type of welding that utilizes tungsten electrodes to join various metals. The tungsten electrode is a critical component in the process, as it channels the current required to establish the arc. The tungsten electrodes can be alloyed with a variety of metals. Different types and sizes of electrodes are used for different types of welds and materials, and welders develop preferences based on welding style and project. Certain electrode types perform better with alternating current (AC) as opposed to direct current (DC). Electrodes are shipped without a ground tip. If grinding a tip, make a tight, sharp point in order to achieve a powerful and precise arc to ensure a clean weld.
