Unlike other species of frankincense, Frankincense Serrata essential oil is harvested in India. Locally, it is known as dhoop, and in the West it is commonly referred to as Indian frankincense. Serrata frankincense has a rich scent, with spicy, lemony, and balsamic overtones. Its highly valued in Ayurvedic medicine, and has long been used for religious and spiritual ceremonies. Frankincense Serrata essential oil contains high amounts of Boswellic acids, which are used in aromatherapy to help with inflammatory diseases such as arthritis, asthma, and Crohns disease. It has even been suggested as a powerful and natural alternative to non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
