Vertical Configurations

These are steel atmospheric tanks intended for aboveground storage of non-corrosive, stable, flammable, and combustible liquids that have a specific gravity not exceeding that of water. Maximum allowable working pressure is 0.5 psig as measured from top of tank. Vertical tanks may be of single or double wall construction. If the tank is a double wall configuration, then it has interstitial monitoring capabilities.

These tanks may also be built with or without multiple compartments for multiple fuel storage. Tanks generally have flat bottoms and conical roofs.

Special fabrication can incorporate dished tops, dished and coned bottoms all supported on skirts or legs. Only new materials are used in tank construction. Each tank is sized with the appropriate normal and emergency vent openings as defined in the tank's standard of construction. Tanks are built to Underwriters Laboratories specification standard UL-142. For special applications, such as products that have a larger specific gravity than water, Modern offers American Petroleum Institute, API, designed tanks in the API-620 or API-650 design configurations.

Glasteel II

Jacketed Secondary Containment A steel tank with a nonmetallic external jacket constructed of fiberglass and polyester resin. The primary tank and FRP jacket are separated by an interstitial space with the jacket acting as the secondary containment and corrosion barrier. Secondary jacket allows for interstitial monitoring capabilities. Glasteel II tanks may also be built with or without multiple compartments for multiple fuel storage. Glasteel II tanks are built to Underwriters Laboratories specification standard UL-58 and UL-1746 part III. Glasteel II tanks are atmospheric steel tanks intended for storage underground of flammable and combustible liquids. Threaded fittings can be located along the tank top centerline or they can be installed inside containment sumps.

Asme Pressure Vessels

Modern Welding Company subsidiaries are ASME Code, 'U' stamp approved. This certifies Modern Welding Company to fabricate Section VIII Division 1 pressure vessels. In addition to these, Modern Welding Company has "R" stamp certification to perform repairs and alterations to boilers and pressure vessels as issued the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors.

Technical Service

Modern's staff has in-house ASME code verification software, Compress by Codeware, which gives you the best fabricated pressure vessel for your investment. Drawings are developed using AUTOCAD by Autodesk, computer aided drafting, for accuracy and clarity.

Welding Procedures and Material of Constructions Modern has a library of up to date, certified, welding procedures developed for welding many different kinds of ferrous and nonferrous metals. These procedures consist of SMAW, GMAW, GMAW-S, FCAW-G, FCAW-S, SAW & GTAW welding processes.

Testing and Examinations

All nondestructive examination is supervised by our in house Level III technician and AWS Certified Welding Inspector. Examinations Include:

Additional destructive testing is performed by Quality Control personnel.
Training
Modern's in-depth welder training program is conducted by an AWS Certified Welding Educator. This assures skilled craftsmen who are educated and familiar with the latest welding technologies. Training is also extended to our Quality Control Inspectors with certification performed in accordance with ASNT, American Society for Nondestructive Testing.

Fireguard

Fireguard is a "Protected" Fire Rated Aboveground Storage Tank with projectile, impact resistant and stream hose test ratings. This is a steel double wall aboveground storage tank with interstitial monitoring capabilities and a 2-hour fire rating. It can be built in horizontal and vertical configurations. These tanks may also be built with or without multiple compartments for multiple fuel storage. Each tank contains 3 inches of light-weight insulation material which has 75% less weight than traditional concrete insulations. Fireguard tanks are built to Underwriters Laboratories, UL-142 and UL 2085 specifications. Fireguard tanks also meet the CARB, California Air Resource Board, testing requirements for air emissions. Fireguard tanks are built in accordance with the Steel Tank Institute's F-941 standard.

Fireguard's UL-2085 construction standard meets and exceeds all the requirements set forth by UL-2080 for Fire Resistant Tanks.

Diked Tanks

These cylindrical aboveground tanks are steel atmospheric tanks intended for aboveground storage of non-corrosive, stable flammable, and combustible liquids that have a specific gravity not exceeding that of water. Diked containments can either be open top or closed top construction. Each tank is sized with the appropriate normal and emergency vent openings as defined in the tank's standard of construction.

The primary containment aboveground storage tank is housed within a rectangular steel dike which contains the product should a spill, tank leak or rupture occur. Tanks are built to Underwriters Laboratories specification standard UL-142.

"IOC" Integrated Overflow Compartment: Modern's IOC tank was created to eliminate spills, environmental cleanup and monetary loss related to overfilling aboveground storage tanks. Modern's special overfill prevention design directs the excess product into the "Integrated Overfill Compartment". This only happens when the product level in the tank exceeds the 95% capacity rating.
