Nasrabad Rugs are woven by settled tribespeople from the Qashqai and Luri tribes in villages south of Isfahan, central PersiaIran.
In many ways Nasrabad Rugs are similar to the rugs produced in the village (small town) of Abadeh. Stylistically, the designs produced highlight their tribal heritage: with distinctive medallions in combination with a field packed with interesting (fun) zoomorphic motifs and geometric, stylised floral patterns.
Typically Nasrabad Rugs are woven in small sizes and runner formats, and these are sturdy, hard wearing rugs. Nasrabad Rugs have a thick woollen pile (generally thicker than Abadeh Rugs) alongside a ridged, tight double weft construction. Older examples maybe woven on a woollen base, whilst modern Nasrabad Rugs have a cotton foundation.
