Electromagnetic Forming

Electromagnetic forming (EMF) uses a high velocity electronic pressure pulse to rapidly form the work piece without mechanical contact. PMF combines electromagnetic forming and flowforming to provide a unique combination of processes to meet manufacturing challenges.

EMF can be used to join dissimilar materials, such as aluminum on to rubber or aluminum on to stainless steel.

Electromagnetic Forming Advantages:

No welding
No heat affected zones
Minimal joint preparation
Work piece can be pre-coated
Metal to non-metals connection using no chemicals
Minimum spring back after forming
No lubricants necessary for forming
PMF has successfully formed powder coated parts in a variety of applications, including tube-to-tube connection, tube end shaping, tube-to-end fittings, tube-to-plate connections, connector assemblies, ground rings, metal-to-plastic, and dissimilar metals.

Laser Cutting

To support our concept-to-completion manufacturing capabilities, PMF Industries, Inc. leverages the benefits of laser cutting for a variety of purposes. Our facility houses a powerful, 6, 000 W CO2 laser capable of making clean, accurate cuts in 34" stainless steel sheet as well as many other materials. The large-bed capacity allows us to cut sheets measuring up to 60.0" in width x 120.0" in length while upholding tolerances as close as 0.003".

Our laser cutter is a valuable asset for creating preforms for flow formed products. Using a laser cutter eliminates the need for costly blanking tooling, and when combined with its 3D cutting capabilities, we can dramatically reduce setup and processing times. Our laser cutter also provides us with the flexibility to create complex forms and accurate features on pipes and other tube-shaped products. We can fabricate 3D shaped components of any geometric complexity, and by combining narrow kerf cuts with sophisticated part nesting software, very little material goes to waste. If your part needs marking or engraving, our non-contact laser marking capabilities allow us to produce clear, easy-to-read, and permanent identification.

We work with most types of ferrous and non-ferrous metals, including high-temperature, high-strength alloys. With design flexibility and minimal setup requirements, laser cutting allows us to fabricate everything from preform blanks to unique shapes and forms with fast turnaround times. As an ISO 9001:2008AS9100C certified manufacturing company, we continuously focus on producing the finest quality products for our customers. Our laser cutting services apply to prototypes, large-scale production levels, and everything in between. Contact us directly to learn more about our laser cutting capabilities.

Rotoforming

Rotoforming is a CNC controlled hot spinning process that utilizes a flowformed cylinder to create a bottle-shaped pressure vessel that has a thick neck and a thin side wall on the main body. The CNC process accurately controls the profile of the neck while delivering controlled wall thickness and repeatability.

PMF's rotoforming process includes simultaneous machining to ensure concentricity with the machining features of the neck and the outside diameter of the flowformed cylinder. The rotoforming process can be used on a variety of materials, including stainless steel, brass, and aluminum.

Hydro Forming

PMF's hydroforming process is unique because it uses a bladder-less configuration as opposed to traditional bladder type units. The bladder-less configuration can achieve a wider range of profiles in tighter radii. PMF's hydroforming capabilities focus on components with wall thicknesses up to .080 inch (2mm).

Our hydroforming process is suited for manufacturing hemispheres up to 12" (304.8mm) in diameter with a uniform wall thickness.

Our customers have found that our combination of processes produce parts with better physical properties that have the ability to handle higher levels of stress than traditional forged and machined components.

While sheet metal offers a more cost effective method for flowforming, PMF has the knowledge and capability to flowform traditional closed and open die forgings as required by customer specifications.

PMF cold forms an array of metals including stainless steel, aluminum, copper, tantalum, carbon steel alloys, and high strength alloys, such as 718 and 625.
