Electrical Tapes

Electrical tapes encompass a wide variety of tapes used in electrical applications. Simple electrical insulating tapes are used to insulate, identify, and label wire and other conductive materials. Black vinyl protects the tape from sunlight and water damage. Conductive tapes are used in cable, integrated circuit, and electromagnetic (EMI) and radio frequency interference (RFI) shielding, as well as in grounding, bonding, and mounting applications. These tapes are made of a conductive metal foil, such as copper or aluminum, coated with a conductive adhesive. Other types of electrical tapes include static control tapes and water contact indicator tapes. Static control tapes protect electronic components while water contact indicator tapes indicate water damage in electronics by turning colors.

Conductive Tapes

Conductive tapes are used in electrical applications and typically consist of a metal foil, such as copper or aluminum, coated on one or both sides with a conductive adhesive. Conductive tapes are available in different adhesive strengths and may be permanent or removable. Common applications for conductive tapes include electrical bonding and grounding, interconnecting flexible circuits, cable shielding, and electromagnetic (EMI) and radio frequency interference (RFI) shielding and grounding. Conductive tapes may be single sided, double sided, and may come with a conductive foam backing for additional gap filling and shock absorbing. Commonly made with acrylic adhesive, conductive tapes have excellent conformability (they are easy to shape) and are ideal for printed circuit boards (PCB), LCD screens, and computer keyboards.

WATER CONTACT INDICATOR TAPES

Water contact indicator tapes change color from white to red upon contact with water. They are used in electronic devices to show evidence of water damage during shipment, and are very thin for use in slim electronics. They are highly absorbent, bond easily to low-energy surfaces like plastic, and provide some protection during handling.
