non-traditional fabrics

A traditional look done in non-traditional fabrics and techniques. Strips of cotton batiste and lace were strip-pieced, cut, and joined together with more lace to form the Lone Star center medallion and the Seminole lacework border. There are two borders of three-row Shark’s Teeth designs. Couched and satin-stitched gimp cord motifs and cables fill the empty white spaces, and a wide strip of butter-yellow antique lace forms the outer border. The batiste and lace was layered over a subtle white and tan print fabric before quilting. And, yes, there are 94 yards of lace in the quilt! This quilt won a third place ribbon at the Paducah American Quilter’s Society judged show in 2005, was juried into the Houston International Quilt Festival 2006, and is featured in Borders & Finishing Touches 2 by Bonnie Browning, 2006, AQS. Machine stitched and quilted.
