My daughter, Annie, turned 21 on Feb. 22, 2004. She was an art major in college. This quilt is almost an exact copy of a painting assignment she did for a design class, based on Johannes Ittens color star. I loved her design, but couldnt have the painting to work from, so I had to do it from memory! The quilt top was pieced from fabric I hand-painted. For the quilt back, I traced down significant people from her life, sent squares of fabric and indelible pens to them, and asked them to write letters to her. I pieced these letters together for the back. Included are most of her best friends from pre-school through high school; her grandparents, aunt, uncle, and cousins, brother, stepfather, and, of course, Mom; a beloved neighbor from a previous town; her fourth-grade teacher and high school Japanese teacher; her wonderful college mentor; and even her dog and cat (they told me what to write!) The quilt was a great success! Machine pieced and quilted.
