Complimentary Processes:
needling, stitching, shaped weaving, resin infusion
TEAM's array of complimentary weaving processes includes needling, shaped and polar weaving techniques which have been applied in industry for such applications as carbon-carbon brake pads for aerospace, low di-electric radomes for commercial aero and defense applications and shaped aramid fabrics for aircraft engine containment. TEAM's proprietary stitching process is capable of forming ultra-complex preform geometries and fiber orientations not feasible with traditional 3D weaving and braiding processes. Off-axis stitching through preforms up to 3" thick, using fragile carbon and ceramic fibers is possible. Finally, TEAM's resin infusion work cell is commonly used to support our customer's R&D programs via tool and mandrel design support and VARTM and RTM processing from matrix systems including epoxies and phenolics.

Braided tubes, sleeves and preforms
TEAM has extensive background in design and fabrication of braided structures for composite applications as well as biomedical applications (resulting in the spin-off of Biomedical Structures, LLC, now BMS, Inc.) Our array of braiding machines ranges from 16 carrier to 288 carrier capacity with capability to fabricate biaxial and triaxial sleeving as well as overbraided mandrels for subsequent composite processing. Typical fibers include glass, carbon and ceramic.

2D woven fabric and tapes
TEAM produces 2D woven fabrics and tapes ranging from 1 inch wide up to 70 inches wide. Traditional weaves such as plain weave, twill, 5HS and others are available as well as customized widths, aereal weights and architectures. Fiber types include carbon, E-Glass, S-Glass, aramid, ceramics and customized hybrids. Applications customers include composites fabricators, distributors and end-users including pre-preggers, sporting goods manufacturers, industrial manufacturers, aerospace manufacturers, and others.

3D woven fabric and billets
TEAM produces 3D woven fabrics and billets ranging from 0.1 inches thick and 70 inches wide in roll form up to >3 inches thick x 54 inches wide in billet form. Our array of 3D weaving looms include computer controlled Jacquard weaving head technology combined with proprietary T.E.A.M. Inc. 3D loom designs enabling perhaps the widest and thickest 3D preform weaving capacity in the industry. Applications are diverse and include E-Glass and S-Glass billets for the hyrdraulic fracking industry, hybridized composite armor preforms for the US Army, thin 3D carbon fabrics for inflatable structures on the international space station, and very fine (1K, 3K and 6K) carbon fiber structures for 3D thermal protection systems (3D-TPS) in next generation re-entry and hypersonic vehicles. Drivers for use of 3D weave for these applications are often a combination of three factors: 1) Damage tolerance, toughness and delamination resistance of 3D woven composite structures, 2) elimination of labor intensive manual ply lay-up, and 3) easy wet-out of thick 3D woven structures relative to traditional laminate structures of comparable thickness and fiber volume.

Design tools and methods
TEAM employs a suite of software based design tools including commercial packages (Auto-Cad and Solidworks), open source codes (TexGen, KSU DfMa), and several proprietary tools developed both in-house and with university and industry partners. For complex mechanical and thermal analyses and testing outside our core area of exptertise, TEAM routinely partners with the industy's most respected and well known composite design and test houses.
