Fail-Safe Spring Set Electromagnetic Clutches

MAXITORQ Fail-Safe clutches offer a reliable, spring applied, positive acting clutch that quickly starts a wide range of equipment.
Designed and manufactured with extreme precision, electric electromagnetic clutch units have been thoroughly tested to deliver proven, dependable performance in many diverse applications - from heavy-duty machine tools to fragile assembly and packaging equipment.
Electrically operated, the clutch's coil is sealed within a stationary housing which is supported on ball bearings. A powerful electromagnetic force disengages the disc pack unit to provide a low-drag neutral.
Internal compressive forces are contained within the clutch and are not transmitted through the bearings. The radial magnetic flux path provides maximum torque throughout the life of the unit.
A significant portion of Carlyle Johnson Machine Co's production is devoted to the design and manufacture of special clutches, brakes and integrated systems designed to specific user requirements. If you need a custom electromagnetic clutch solution we have the experience and skills to meet your transmission problem challenge.

Multiple Disc Electric Clutches

Maxitorq multiple disc electric clutches deliver 3 to 6 times the torque of single disc electric clutches of the same package size. With superior performance and excellent reliability, the maxitorq multiple disc electric clutch design is simple and rugged, ideally suited for critical applications.
Carlyle johnson multiple disc electric clutches provide high reliability for mission-critical military applications, including in the u.s. Army's new fighting vehicles, winch mechanisms aboard rescue helicopters, cooling pump drives, and aircraft deicing equipment. They are also utilized in products that service the medical, machine tool and food packaging machinery.
As with all cjm parts, our experienced engineers can modify our standard electric clutches to meet you needs, or we can design a new product to meet your exact requirements.
Features of ema electric clutches
carlyle johnson's multiple disc electric clutches feature our "through-the-disc" magnetic flux path, which provides maximum torque transfer, automatic wear compensation and consistent performance throughout the life of the clutch. These units can run dry or in oil, for additional heat dissipation and extended disc life.
Time-tested and ruggedly-built, cjm electric clutches utilize highly efficient magnetic flux circuits. These clutches provide fully self-adjusting operation, up to the point of replacement of friction discs, after long service. As with all maxitorq electric clutches, disc replacement can be done easily and without special tools.
The unit's coil housing, supported on dual ball bearings, is stationary and is held from rotating by electrical conduit or fixed member engaging the threaded fitting. There are also no slip rings or brushes. Since the clutch is a complete, compact and self-contained unit, it is ideally suited to many "built-in" installations.

Multiple Disc Pulley Clutch

Multiple Disc Pulley Clutch (EPC)
EPC Pulley Clutch
Carlyle Johnson's MAXITORQ multiple disc electric pulley clutches - also known as sheave clutches - incorporate a standard electromagnetic multiple disc design with an oil shear principle to enhance service life.
Oil is squeezed from between the friction discs as the pulley clutch is engaged, and the shearing oil transmits the engagement torque. This process significantly reduces heat along the surface of the friction disc. The heated oil is then forced to the outside of the housing for greater heat dissipation.
EPC pulley clutches are often mounted on devices where the unit needs to be routinely disengaged from the main power source.
CJM is able to modify our standard EPC pulley clutches to meet your specific needs - rely on our experience to modify our existing production line or to build a custom pulley clutch solution.
Features of EPC Pulley Clutch Units
The EPC multiple disc electric pulley clutch is suitable for harsh applications, providing long life span due to its unique oil shear multiple disc design, with life expectancies greater than ten times that of single plate, dry clutches.
With a fully sealed, this pulley clutch operates in a bath of type A automatic transmission fluid, which helps to protect the component from damage from environmental conditions and wash-downs.
Designed to mount in minutes, EPC pulley clutches are proven dependable, largely due to a design that incorporates long-wearing self-adjusting multiple disc units, creating a pulley clutch that "really works" under tough conditions.

Multiple Disc Mechanical Clutches

Carlyle Johnson's MAXITORQ Mechanical Multiple Disc mechanical clutches provide 3 to 6 times the torque produced by a single disc mechanical friction clutch of the same package size, making them the ideal solution for high torque, limited space requirements.
Separator springs are used between each pair of inner discs on these mechanical clutches, providing the advantage of truly floating discs. This ensures that there is negligible drag, no abrasion, and consequently no heat generated when the clutch is in neutral. A locking plate on the disc end of each unit (two on double types) locks all discs against compression by the lever system.
As with all Carlyle Johnson products, our multiple disc mechanical clutches can be customized to meet your applications. Our engineering department can also custom-design and produce a mechanical or friction clutch to fit your exact requirements.
Features of MMSMMS Multiple Disc Clutch Units
The MMSMMD unit's clutch disc features a bronze or steel friction clutch surface for added life, superior consistency for indexing and for excellent torque transmission. Shipped fully-assembled CJM multiple disc mechanical clutches arrive ready to be slipped onto a shaft.
When needed, manual adjustment to the clutch is made by temporarily loosening the lock screw on the split type adjusting ring, then turning the ring to give the desired shifting pressure. Only a hex key wrench is required for this adjustment.Overview - MMSMMD
