Due to health risks and environmental considerations involved in the use of solvent-based lacquers, much work has gone in to the development of water-based lacquers. Such lacquers are considerably less toxic and more environmentally friendly, and in many cases, produce acceptable results. More and more water-based colored lacquers are replacing solvent-based clear and colored lacquers in underhood and interior applications in the automobile and other similar industrial applications. Water based lacquers are used extensively in wood furniture finishing as well Waterborne technology has advanced significantly in recent years. Wurdack stays ahead of the competition through a commitment to investing in laboratory time and comprehensive testing of the newest raw materials, often before they become commercially available. Waterborne systems are those systems which are thinned or cleaned up with water or which contain water as an active component. These include acrylic lacquers, polyurethanes, enamels, and epoxies as well as latex coatings. They can be air-dry or baked systems, single or two-component.
