KM Retaining Nut

  • Identification KM-00
  • Thread M10 X , 75
  • Outside Dia (mm) 18, 0
  • Face Dia (mm) 13, 5
This series is the first international standard (ISO-2982) approved in 1971 after eight years of cooperative effort among many nations of the world. To meet the variances of some nations using metric dimensions and to bring the quality of manufacture to United States standards, this series is manufactured with a thread of 4H tolerance grade and position as promulgated by the International Standards Organization. Still these locknuts are fully interchangeable with metric locknuts made to a 5H tolerance grade and position. Be aware, however, there are special thread metric retaining locknuts just as there have been and their will be special inch locknuts for the special engineer and special application. The runout of the bearing face to the pitch diameter of the threads has a one revolution total indicator reading of no greater than: 25 Microns (.001 inches) for sizes 00 through 10, 50 Microns (.002 inches) for sizes 11 through 20, 100 Microns (.004 inches) for sizes 21 through 40. These metric locknuts come in carbon steel. Sizes KM-44 and larger are a Whittet-Higgins design and have class 7H metric trapezoidal threads. They use a PPM precision locking plate instead of the lockwasher. These locknuts can also be used in place of the HM31xx series locknuts. As with all precision retaining devices, care must be taken during assembly to assure premium performance. Please open and review our installation instructions for proper technique and best results.

W Lockwasher

  • Identification W-00
  • Bore (inches) 0.406
  • Outside Dia (inches) 0.875
  • Face Dia (inches) 0.640
Most commonly used lockwashers, these multi-tang lockwashers are the least expensive. They are made of a material sufficiently soft so the tangs will withstand several bends of locking and unlocking in assembly, but of a material sufficiently hard to resist the shearing action which may be exerted by the corner of the spanner slots. The key is bent in the opposite direction of the tang and axially to the shaft to fit in a shaft keyway under the bearing race to provide greater resistance to the shearing action and to provide support with the inner race of the bearing.

BH Bearhug

  • Identification BH-00
  • Thread .391-32
  • Outside Dia (inches) 0.750
  • Face Dia (inches) 0.625
This series of BEARHUG Locknuts, with a nylon collar, is the mainstay of the precision self-locking nuts. It is designed for the same shaft dimensions as are the N and AN locknuts, but with the added features of self-locking and super precision wherein it has become a most important component for precision bearing and power transmission assemblies. The runout of the bearing face of these nuts to the pitch diameter of their threads have a one revolution total indicator reading no greater than: .0004 inches for sizes 00 through 04, .0006 inches for sizes 05 through 20, .0008 inches for sizes 21 through 40. Seating surface is within 40 micro-inches.

BHI Bearhug

  • Identification BHI-01
  • Thread .750-16
  • Outside Dia (inches) 1.500
  • Face Dia (inches) 1.188
This series of BEARHUG locknuts brings together the prevailing torque principle, especially its ability to dampen shock and vibration, the all inch design retaining nut of the NI series especially with the National Fine Thread Series with 16 threads per inch, and the precision of the WHITTET-HIGGINS BEARHUG products. It is ideal for applications where the assembly will perform in difficult conditions such as mining and construction equipment. This series provides four larger sizes not provided in the NI series. The runout of the bearing face to the pitch diameter of the threads has a one revolution total indicator reading of no greater than .001 inches for all sizes. The surface level of the bearing face is within 40 microinches.

BHM Bearhug

  • Identification BHM-00
  • Thread .391-32
  • Outside Dia (inches) 0.750
  • Face Dia (inches) 0.625
This series of BEARHUG self-locking nuts combines key specifications of aircraft and military standards with the BEARHUG qualities of precision, self-locking and better installation to meet the requirements of government and the military, as well as many other activities. Today it has the added feature of being made in an alloy steel hardened to a minimum level of Rockwell 20 on the C scale. This makes readily available a better retaining nut for many engineers who need a hardened self-locking nut for their application. The collar for this series is made of heat stabilized nylon, able to withstand temperatures of 250.

BMT All-Steel Bearhug

  • Identification BMT-02
  • Thread M15 x 1, 0
  • Outside Dia (mm) 25
  • Face Dia (mm) 21
This series of BEARHUG Locknuts, with a spring metal collar insert, is designed in accordance with ISO standard 2982, but with the added features of self-locking and super precision at elevated temperatures wherein it has become a most important component for precision bearing and power transmission assemblies. This quality series of BEARHUG is manufactured with quality threads of tolerance grade and position 4H. This is more comparable to the Class 3 thread of the current American retaining nuts, which the usual 5H tolerance grade and position of the threads for bearing retaining nuts does not uniformly reach. The 5H is more comparable to Class 2. This upgrading allows a user of these self-locking nuts to confidently interchange with the nuts of various national manufacture and national standard for metric dimensioned locknuts. The runout of the bearing face to the pitch diameter has a one revolution total indicator reading no greater than: 10 microns (.0004 inches) for sizes 00 through 045, 15 microns (.0006 inches) for sizes 05 through 20, 20 microns (.0008 inches) for sizes 21 through 40. Surface finish of bearing face is within 1 micron.
