What are helical gears?
Helical Gears have teeth which are set at an angle. Helical gears and spur gears are very similar except that the teeth of a helical gear are cut at an angle to the axis or hole. These teeth typically engage more slowly and smoothly than spur and other types of gears used for similar applications, because the load is transferred uniformly and gradually. This results in superior performance and reduced noise and vibration. When used on parallel shafts, helical gears are similar to spur gears, but generally provide a stronger, smoother running gear train. When used on shafts at right angles, these helical gears are commonly known as spiral gears or crossed axis helical gears. Helical gears are made in both right and left hand configurations.

Spur gears are a very common type of gear and in many cases they are the most cost effective type of gearing. They generally have straight teeth and transmit motion & power between parallel shafts. Spur gears are used in many devices & industries including: Electronics, Construction equipment, Machine tools, Conveyors and Material handling. They are typically not used in automotive applications because they can be noisy.

Planetary Gears

A planetary gearset, also referred to as epicyclic gearing, has three components; the sun gear, the planet gears' carrier and one or more planet gears, and the ring gear. With these three components, different gear ratios can be produced depending on which gear you use as input, which gear you use as output, and which gear is held still. The ratio of input rotation to output rotation is dependent upon the number of teeth in each gear, and on which gear is held stationary.The chief benefit of planetary gearing is that the input and output are in line. Internal Gears

Internal spur gears, also know as ring gears, have the same standards as an external spur gear except that the teeth are cut into the inside diameter while the outside is kept smooth. Internal gears can provide a compact solution that delivers large speed reductions and reduced sliding wear action and can be applied in a wide range of equipments & applications. Internal gears are widely used in light duty applications. When it's necessary to have two parallel shafts rotate in the same direction, internal gears eliminate the need for an idler gear.
