INDUSTRIAL ADHESIVES Industrial adhesives come in many forms from solvent cements formulated for bonding similar plastics to solvent-free, instant, UV curable and structural adhesives that can be used to bond dissimilar substrates to each other, such as plastics to metal. Using the right industrial adhesive can produce strong bonds when applied to acrylic, ABS, polycarbonate, styrene or virtually any other plastic or metal. In many cases, the bond achieved by the adhesive is inherently stronger than the material itself. Choosing the correct grade is dependent upon the substrates to be bonded, working time needed, desired cure time, and the expected service environment. Cyanoacrylate adhesives bond very quickly to a wide range of substrates. RTV (room temperature vulcanizing) silicone sealants serve a broad spectrum of industrial and electronic applications. Solvent-based adhesives are widely used for bonding popular plastics like polycarbonate and acrylic. Structural adhesives and acrylic adhesives provide extremely durable bonds with little to no surface preparation. Operating from over 40 stocking locations nationwide, our knowledgeable sales teams are well prepared to help you find the appropriate industrial adhesives for all of your application needs.

OVERLAMINATES AND ADHESIVE FILMS Over-laminating and adhesive films are used in printed applications for mounting, laminating and encapsulating. These films are typically available in heat-activated, heat-set and pressure-sensitive varieties. Over-laminates are clear films with adhesive backing that are typically used in digital printing, floor graphics, and window graphics. These films are applied to the top or front side of an image or product to impart protection from abrasion, moisture, and other potentially damaging effects in both indoor and outdoor environments. An over-laminating film can also be used for encapsulating by applying the film to both sides of an image or product. An adhesive film can be used to bond a printed image to a substrate or surface. Adhesives can be applied to the face or back of an image depending on the finished product. Piedmont Plastics stocks a large selection of quality overlaminates and adhesives from leading manufacturers, and our team is ready to help provide you with solutions from more than 40 nationwide distribution locations.

VINYL MATERIAL Vinyl is a strong, durable, low-cost material that has historically been a workhorse in the sign industry. Its moisture resistance, fire resistance, and versatility make it useful in a wide range of indoor and outdoor applications. Adhesive backed vinyl (ABV) features a pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) backing for easy application in POP displays, floor advertising, point-of-sale promotion, vehicle wraps, wall coverings, and window vinyl. Vinyl material can be printed with a variety of technologies, including bold colors, embossed textures, and distinctive finishes. Some ABV can be coated with removable adhesives for reapplication or short-term use. Perforated vinyl allows an image to be seen from outside a window while still allowing people inside to see out. These options turn almost any surface into prime advertising real estate and makes ABV desirable for many advertising and decorative applications. Piedmont Plastics offers numerous options in digital vinyl material including cast, calendared, and specialty products as well as options for colors, backings, and adhesives. Your qualified Piedmont representative looks forward to answering your questions about your specific applications.

PHENOLIC Phenolics are hard, dense materials made by applying heat and pressure to varying weighted layers of paper, cotton, or a glass fabric mix that is impregnated with a synthetic resin. Phenolics are approximately half the weight of aluminum and their physical toughness resists abrasion, friction, as well as impact and material fatigue. In addition to their machinability, phenolic also has low water absorption and dissipation factors, corrosion resistance to a number of chemicals, and superior electrical characteristics exhibited over a wide range of temperatures and humidity. These material qualities make phenolics ideal for use in a number of fabricated parts. By using special flame retardant epoxy resins, phenolic can be given superior flame resistance. Common applications for phenolics include terminal boards, antenna insulators, printed circuit boards, washers, spacers, cams, inserts, bushings, gaskets, rings, collars, switch gears, violent storm or ballistic protection, textile bobbins, lap spools and structural parts that require good impact strength or where size-to-strength ratio is critical. Piedmont Plastics offers a wide variety of phenolic sheet including XX, CE, LE, and G-10 in varying gauges and sheet sizes ranging from 36” x 48” to 48” x 120”. We also carry phenolic rod and tubing with varying diameters and wall thicknesses and in lengths up to 48”. We are prepared to meet your phenolic needs for nearly every application.
ABS Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene, commonly known as ABS, combines three unique compounds to create a versatile and cost effective thermoplastic polymer. An impact resistant and durable product with low moisture absorption rates, ABS is easily manufactured for indoor and outdoor applications, including appliance parts, automotive trim, and enclosures. Parts made with ABS can be joined with machine screws, bolts, nuts, rivets, and spring steel fasteners. Best known for its rigid design, glossy exterior and electrical insulation properties, ABS boasts a highly heat tolerant design allowing for ease of thermoforming and sonic welding on wood, epoxy, ceramic, and aluminum. Additionally, press and snap techniques are used for bonding with compatible materials. Designed with the consumer’s needs in mind, ABS is customizable with color matching technology, a range of widths, and seven unique textures. Piedmont Plastics stocks ABS in plate, sheet, and rod profiles with both standard and customized lengths.
