Wire rope consists of three basic components; while few in number, these vary in both complexity and configuration so as to produce ropes for specific purposes or characteristics. The three basic components of a standard wire rope design are: 1) wires that form the strand, 2) multi-wire strands laid helically around a core, and 3) the core. Wire, for rope, is made in several materials and types; these include steel, iron, stainless steel, monel and bronze. By far, the most widely used material is high-carbon steel. This is available in a variety of grades each of which has properties related to the basic curve for steel rope wire. Wire rope manufacturers select the wire type that is most appropriate for requirements of the finished product. Steel wire strengths are appropriate to the particular grade of the wire rope in which they are used. Grades of wire rope are referred to as traction steel (TS), mild plow steel (MPS), plow steel (PS), improved plow steel (IPS), and extra improved plow steel (EIP). (These steel grade names originated at the earliest stages of wire rope development and have been retained as references to the strength of a particular size and grade of rope.) The plow steel strength curve forms the basis for calculating the strength of all steel rope wires; the tensile strength (psi) of any steel wire grade is not constant – it varies with the diameter and is highest in the smallest wires.

Grommet Slings can be fabricated in very short circumferences. The reason is this; Grommet Slings are made from one continuous length of strand or wire rope. This requires only one tuck-in point as compared with six tuck-in points needed to manufacture an endless sling. Grommets made from strand are called Rope Grommets – and are used high resistance to abrasion. Grommets made from wire rope are called Cable Grommets – and are used where extra flexibility is needed. Many fittings are adaptable for use with Grommet Slings. Length Tolerance Grommets are made to a length tolerance of plus or minus 6 sling body diameters or plus or minus 1% of circumferential sling length, whichever is greater. Length Tolerance Hand spliced slings are manufactured to a length tolerance of plus or minus 2 rope diameters or plus or minus 0.5% of sling length, whichever is greater. Slings, which will be used as matched sets will be within 12 rope diameter of each other.
VI – Return eye (reversed eye) sling is formed by using multiple widths of webbing held edge to edge. A wear pad is attached on both sides of the sling body and on both sides of the loop eyes to form a loop eye at each end which is at a right angle to the plane of the sling body.

Grade 43 chain features both high tensile strength and resistance to wear needed by modern hauling and heavy-duty trucking, farm and construction firms. Working load limits exceed those of ordinary low carbon or general utility chain. Proof test certificates are furnished on requested. Grade 70 is extremely strong for its light weight and is used primarily for load binding in the transportation industry. However, it is also used extensively on farms, in lumbering, towing and construction. Grade 70’s high strength to weight ration is achieved due to the boron manganese steel from which it is fabricated. It resists wear because of its exceptional hardness properties. Grade 70 chain is not to be used for lifting or hoisting applications.

Hoist hooks incorporate markings forges into the product which address two (2) QUIC-CHECK features. Deformation Indicators — Two strategically placed marks, one just below the shank or eye and the other on the hook up, which allows for a QUIC-CHECK measurement to determine if the throat opening has changed, thus indicating abuse or overload. To check, use a measuring device (i.e. tape measure) to measure the distance between the marks. The marks should align to either an inch or half-inch increment on the measuring device. If the measurement does not meet this criteria, the hook should be inspected further for possible damage. Angle Indicators — Indicates the maximum included angle which is allow between two (2) sling legs in the hook. These indicators also provide the opportunity to approximate other included angles between two sling legs.
Each base has a Product Identification Code (PIC) for material traceability, the name CROSBY or "CG", and a size forged into it.
